What is "Web Hosting"?
"Web Hosting" refers to having your website located on one of our web servers. Your website must be hosted on a special "web server" (a specially computer with an authorized Internet address). Excell Internet will manage and maintain your website while giving you the option to update your website's pages at your convenience.
What is "Virtual Web Hosting"?
"Virtual Web Hosting" refers to having your website located on one of our web servers that is shared with other customers. Virtual web hosting allows Excell Internet to price the web hosting service at a very reasonable level, while still giving the customer full functionality.
What is "Dedicated Web Hosting"?
"Dedicated Web Hosting" refers to having your website located on an Excell Internet web server that is dedicated to just one customer (you). You may wish to have your own server for a variey of reasons including choice of hardware (for performance), choice of operating system, and choice of web server software.
Please contact Excell's sales department for more details.
What is a "Web Address"?
A "Web Address" is a place where your website is located on the Internet. The technical term for a web address (i.e., "www.yuorname.com") is "Universal Resource Locator," or URL. You have two choices when hosting your website on our web servers:
- Secure your own domain name. In this case your web site would be addressed as follows: http://www.yourcompany.com
- List your web site underneath Excell Internet Inc.'s domain. In this case your web site would be addressed as follows: http://www.excellnet.com/yourcompany.
How does one "register" a Domain Name?
It's easy! Simply contact Excell's sales department and we will help you choose and register your domain name for you. Excell Internet charges a one time fee of $95 for providing this service.
Please note that the "Internic" will bill you directly at $50 per year for the first two years ($100), payable in advance. Excell does not charge you for this fee. Expect to get a bill from the "Internic" for their fee shortly after your domain name is registered.
Why does Excell and the Internic both charge for a Domain Name? What is the "Internic"?
The "Internic" is the central authority that assigns domain names to individuals and organizations. The Internic charges you a yearly fee for the right to "own" a domain name. However, once you "own" a domain name you still need a service provider, such as Excell Internet to "service" your domain name account. This is standard for the industry.
How much does "Web Hosting" cost?
There is no separate "setup fee" other than Excell's domain name registration charges. In other words, there is only one $95 fee from Excell that includes domain name and setup charges combined.
The "monthly fee" is based on the amount of data transferred from your website. We have a three-tier structure. Included in each tier is a maximum amount of disk space. Additional disk space may be purchased at the rate of $1 per MB per month.
The following table summarizes the monthly web hosting fees:
Level Monthly Cost Maximum Amount of Data Transferred Per Month Maximum Amount of Disk Space Per Month One $100 500 MB 10 MB Two $300 1000 MB 30 MB Three $500 2000 MB 50 MB If you exceed the maximum amount of data transferred per month for two consecutive months then Excell will notify you after the first month that you might be eligible for a higher monthly charge.
If you exceed level three then Excell will contact you and to discuss moving your website to a dedicated server.
Are there any special terms or committments?
Yes. Excell requires a one year committment (contract) to the service after an initial six-month trial period.
Can I have my own "Dedicated Server"?
Yes. The monthly cost will depend on a variety of factors including who supplies the hardware, the type of hardware (in the case that Excell Internet supplies the hardware), the operating system and the web server software used, etc.
What if I already have a domain name and I want to use it for web hosting?
Excell Internet will work you and your current provider to transfer your domain name to our name server. However, you will still have to pay the $95 domain name setup fee.
Will I have FTP access (the ability to change page content yourself) for my web hosting account?
Yes. Included with your web hosting account is a "private" ID code (password) which you can use to "ftp" your files to or from the server. Companies that frequently change their page content would want to take advantage of "ftp access."
If you are interested in "ftp access," but are unfamiliar with how "ftp" (file transfer protocol) works, an Excell Internet technical advisor will walk you through the process. If you find you don't have the time or expertise to use ftp, then Excell will work out an arrangement to provide this service for you..

Will I have "E-mail" capabilities for my web hosting account?
Yes. You will have two options:
- Leave your e-mail on our mail server (mailhub.yourcompany.com). To retrieve your e-mail all you need to do is connect to the Internet and point your e-mail reader (Netscape works well for e-mail!) at our server.
- Have your e-mail forwarded to another e-mail account on the Internet.
How many different e-mail "aliases" can I have for my domain name?
There is no "hard" limit. Included with your web hosting account you get one "personal" alias plus one "catch-all" alias. The "catch-all" alias will match all e-mail to your domain that doesn't match any specific alias that has been setup for your domain.
For example, suppose you have the following setup:
E-mail Alias Forwarded Email Account joe@yourcompany.com joe@aol.com xxx@yourcompany.com lori@aol.com For instance, an e-mail sent to "joe@yourcompany.com" will be delivered to "joe@aol.com". E-mail sent to "xxx@yourcompany.com," or "somebody@yourcompany.com," or "president@yourcompany.com" will all be delivered to lori@aol.com.
Additional e-mail aliases are charged $10 per year per alias.
